Denes Lajos Nagy

1944 szeptemberében születtem Budapesten. Négy hónapos koromban egyike voltam a budapesti gettó 70000 túlélőjének. 1967-ben kaptam fizikusi diplomát az Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetemen, amelynek 1998-ban tanára is lettem. Elsősorban azonban kutatóként dolgoztam az egykori Központi Fizikai Kutatóintézetben, majd annak utódjaiban; jelenleg az MTA Wigner Fizikai Kutatóközpont emeritusa vagyok Budapesten. Akit a szakmai részletek érdekelnek, azokról a http://mffo.rmki.kfki.hu/NagyDL lapon olvashat.

I was born in September 1944. When I was fouth months old, I was one of the 70000 survivors of the Budapest Ghetto. I graduated as a physicist from the Eötvös Loránd University that, in 1998, I became a professor of. Nevertheless, in the first line I have been a researcher of the former Central Research Institute for Physics and its successors; presently I am an emeritus of the Wigner Research Centre for Physiscs, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. Those interested in professional details may wish to visit the page http://mffo.rmki.kfki.hu/NagyDL.

From the early seventies to the mid-nineties I was teaching and doing research at (West-)German universities for altogether almost six years. Here I understood how a liberal democracy works and also how a nation can properly elaborate its terrible history. Although, except Antarctica, I visited all continents and from Russia and China to Brazil and Egypt I know numerous countries and political systems, moreover in all those countries I have true friends, I have never seen a country the people of which disclaimed the responsibility for their own historical guilts in a size as Hungarian people do. I have certainly always been an anti-fascist, however I only became an active one since 2002 and even more since 2006 when I saw that unscrupulous politicians in Hungary are more and more using fascistic or even Nazi methods and operate such organizations. This is what, as a secretary of the Kohányi Society, I am going to do against.
